Bay Ridge Ford Opens New Service Center in BKLYN Army Terminal

Bay Ridge Ford recently opened its 33,000 square foot state of the art Ford service center in the historic former Federal Laundry Building, located at 152 58th Street in Sunset Park, Brooklyn at the Brooklyn Army Terminal.

After a $5.6 million renovation at one of the city’s largest industrial complexes, Bay Ridge Ford is the latest major arrival to the Brooklyn Army Terminal. South Brooklyn’s industrial waterfront has a prominent role in the Bloomberg administration’s plans to create skilled, high-paying jobs and keep transforming the economy.

“We have worked very closely with Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, the City of New York and the Economic Development Corporation on renovating one of the most storied buildings in Brooklyn. Marty Markowitz’s staunch support over the past few years was instrumental in making the Bay Ridge Service Center a reality. We chose this location for our new Service Center in part because of the incentives offered by the New York State Empire Development Zone. We will continue our commitment to Brooklyn with this incredible Ford service center. A service center that will be convenient for our customers and New York City and will have the capability to service a full range of Ford vehicles,” explains Gary B. Flom, President and CEO of Bay Ridge Ford.

“Brooklyn is on the move and there’s no better proof than Bay Ridge Ford, the first new car dealership to open in Brooklyn in decades, and now celebrating the opening of their new state of the art service center. The future of the auto industry is being played out in Brooklyn since many hi-tech jobs that require skilled workers have resulted from this facility. Some of the best mechanics in the industry will service some of America’s best cars right here in the borough, not to mention the ancillary employment and business that will be ‘accelerated’ in the local community and beyond. Many thanks to Gary Flom for believing in the economic vitality of Brooklyn and investing resources that will no doubt be highly successful. And kudos to his entire staff at the new service center for ‘revving up’ business locally and ensuring that in Brooklyn, the recession is in our rear view mirror,” states Brooklyn Borough President, Marty Markowitz.

“We are pleased to have a company like Bay Ridge Ford here at BAT, contributing to the revival of Brooklyn’s historic industrial waterfront. Not only will this service center be the only one in the area serving many types of large commercial vehicles, supporting new and expanding companies in critical sectors, but it will also generate jobs and economic activity in its own right,” said Kyle Kimball, Executive Director of the New York Economic Development Corp.

This service center is not only the newest one in New York, but also the only one of its kind that can accommodate most large commercial diesel vehicles; police cars, ambulances, buses and trucks. The finished service center complements the new Bay Ridge Ford dealership and will increase the total number of generated jobs to over 60 for the Bay Ridge and Sunset Park communities. Without the help of Borough President, Marty Markowitz and his staff, President Seth Pinsky, Josh Wallach, the Asset Management team, and numerous others from the Economic Development Corporation, City Councilwoman, Sara Gonzalez, and our many other public sector partners: Empire State Development Corporation, Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation Department of Small Business Services, and many more this Service Center would not be possible.

The new Brooklyn Army Terminal site is a historic landmark and was used during World War II as a laundry facility for soldiers’ uniforms. Bay Ridge Ford is working closely with the New York State Historic Preservation Office to ensure that the renovation does not affect the building’s historic status. Bay Ridge Ford is owned by Gary B. Flom and Veniamin Nilva.
