Join chashama and MAS at the historic Brooklyn Army Terminal for a history of the neighborhood and walk through one of the largest subsidized studio programs in NYC with guide Melanie Macchio. Spread across two adjacent buildings and situated along Brooklyn’s waterfront in the Sunset Park neighborhood, chashama, which looks to transform underutilized properties into affordable work and presentation spaces, provides over 85 studio work spaces for painters, sculptors, photographers, experimental mixed media artists, and even fire-breathing performers! Designed by prominent architect Cass Gilbert and built in 1918, the army terminal once served as the largest military supply base in the U.S. through World War II. Today, it has transformed into a complete commercial and industrial complex with tenants in a variety of industries.
